First Stop: Prionia – The Starting Point of the Hike

Distance from Volos: 144 km (~2 hours by road)

Our adventure begins in Prionia, the highest point on Mount Olympus that you can reach by car (1,080m altitude). From here, we enter the wild beauty of the Enipeas Gorge.

What to See & Do

  • Start your hike on the well-maintained E4 trail, surrounded by tall trees and wildflowers
  • Cross the first of seven wooden bridges over the flowing Enipeas River
  • Listen to the sounds of nature—the water, the birds, and the rustling leaves

Time Spent Here: ~30 minutes before starting the hike


Second Stop: Enipeas Waterfalls & Natural Pools

Distance from Prionia: ~3 km (1-hour hike)

As we walk deeper into the gorge, we reach beautiful waterfalls and natural pools with crystal-clear water.

  • See the famous Enipeas waterfalls, surrounded by lush greenery
  • Rest by the cool pools, a perfect spot for a short break
  • Take in the incredible scenery and peaceful atmosphere

Third Stop: Agios Dionysios Monastery & The Saint’s Cave

Distance from Enipeas Waterfalls: ~3 km (1-hour hike)

Next, we visit the historic Monastery of Agios Dionysios, a spiritual place built in the 16th century. Nearby, we find the cave where Saint Dionysios lived as a hermit.

  • Walk through the ruins of the monastery, which has a long and dramatic history
  • Explore the Saint’s Cave, hidden in the rocks of Olympus
  • Enjoy a quiet moment in this special and sacred place

Final Stretch: Hiking to Litochoro

Distance from Agios Dionysios to Litochoro: ~5 km (2-hour hike)

The last part of the hike takes us through the forest, offering breathtaking views of the mountains and the river.

  • Walk through a mix of oak, pine & beech forests
  • Cross the Enipeas River multiple times on wooden bridges
  • Reach Portes Viewpoint, where you’ll enjoy amazing views of Litochoro
